These Native Goods was created by Chandra Fox to act as a database of conscious labels. The site is not a store, but a specially curated directory of companies who manufacture locally and ethically. The list includes a wide range of brands, from small artisans who hand make their own goods, to larger companies who work with domestic factories. Our goal is to make it more convenient for consumers to find brands who manufacture quality, ethical products in the USA.

Why USA made? For one, we have stricter labor and environmental laws than many of the countries we outsource cheap labor to. Some of the safety, human rights and environmental violations that take place in the manufacturing industry are simply appalling. If you would like to learn more about this The True Cost is a good place to start. Poor working conditions do exist in the USA, but generally not on the same scale or to such a severe degree. As a note These Native Goods only promotes companies who are dedicated to ethical manufacturing with fair pay. Two, we want to support our local communities and economy by promoting small businesses. We love mom and pop operations, so we want to help them thrive. Additionally we want to be able to work closely with the brands in our directory, so keeping it local just made sense. We do from time to time feature companies who manufacture in an ethical and sustainable way overseas, but our main focus is domestic.

Many of the companies listed in the directory were created around the idea of sustainability. They use recycled materials, non toxic finishes and dyes, organic and non GMO ingredients. All the beauty companies we promote are cruelty free (no animal testing) and free of harsh chemicals. They are companies we use ourselves and companies we admire. The idea for These Native Goods grew out of Chandra's desire to improved her own health, in part by eliminating toxic home and beauty products from her life. It expanded into a wider range of sustainable, ethical and clean products with the birth of her daughter.  We need to do our best to care for our planet and all its inhabitants, to be a good example for our children and to help preserve their future.

Chandra's background is in the arts, she has a degree in fashion design and spent over 10 years in the industry. She uses her experience and knowledge of pattern drafting and construction to help select brands for the directory.
