These Native Goods was created by Chandra Fox, in hopes of encouraging consumers to be more conscious about their shopping choices. The site is not a store, but a specially curated directory of companies who manufacture locally. The list includes a wide range of brands, from small artisans who hand make their own goods, to larger companies who work with domestic factories. Our goal is to introduce consumers to brands who manufacture quality, ethical products in the USA; so that they may support these businesses.
Why USA made? For one, we have stricter labor and environmental laws than many of the countries we outsource cheap labor to. Some of the safety, human rights and environmental violations that take place in the manufacturing industry are simply appalling. If you would like to learn more about this, The True Cost is a good place to start. Poor working conditions do exist in the USA, but generally not on the same scale or to such a severe degree. As a note These Native Goods only promotes companies who are dedicated to ethical manufacturing with fair pay. Two, we want to support our local communities and economy by promoting small businesses. We feel it is important to allow mom and pop operations to thrive, your dollars are going directly to the people when you shop in this way. Additionally we want to be able to work closely with the brands in our directory, so keeping it close to home just made sense. We do from time to time feature companies who ethically and sustainably manufacture overseas, but our main focus is local.
Most of the companies listed in the directory were created around the idea of sustainability. Many use recycled materials, non toxic finishes and dyes, organic and non GMO ingredients. All the beauty companies we promote are cruelty free (no animal testing) and free of harsh chemicals. They are companies we use ourselves and companies we admire. The idea for These Native Goods actually grew out of Chandra's desire to improved her own health by eliminating toxic home and beauty products from her life. It expanded into a wider range of sustainable, ethical and clean products with the birth of her daughter (who is the inspiration behind the sites creation). We need to do our best to care for our planet and all its inhabitants, to be a good example for our children and to help preserve their future.
Chandra's background is in the arts, she has a degree in fashion design and spent over 10 years in the industry. She studied under tailors and dressmakers to learn pattern drafting and construction, spent years working with brands in the modeling world and created her own handmade jewelry line. She uses her experience and knowledge of construction to help select brands for the directory, making sure the pieces are high quality.
We do our best to keep our information up to date. Sometimes companies change their policies or their manufacturing locations. Should you see an error please don't hesitate to let us know. This site is a work in progress, the directory will grow and change as we go. Please feel free to contact us if you either know of or own a like minded business. Thank you for visiting our site, happy treasure hunting.
Also please note that some of the links on our site are affiliate links, which means we make a very small percentage from your purchase. This allows us to keep the directory free for everyone while getting compensated for our time. But please know that we only advertise products and companies that align with our beliefs.
