I Like It Here Club

September 25, 2017

To me jewelry has always been a little different than clothing or other accessories. The pieces hold more sentiment, they often have a story and wearing them can bring up special memories. I think about the way my ancestors viewed jewelry. The symbols, stones and materials all stood for something; and they held special energies. Jessie Yeager brings storytelling back with her designs, the pieces she makes for her line I Like It Here Club all have meaning. The Orbit Studs for example;

"They always make me think of that day you took me absolutely out of orbit: in the glossy black silence of space we danced and danced, the twist the swim the shake and the watusi, consumed with each other, the pirouetting steps, the curve of your ears; collapsing with laughter and crashing back to earth, a soft mattress on red tile, velvet pillows, pots of geraniums by the windows, and rabbits in the garden."

Each description tells a little tale, giving us a glimpse of what the piece symbolizes to Yeager. She constructs these beautiful collections mainly from her home studio in Wilmington, NC. With a few pieces being outsourced to NYC for casting and Rhode Island for plating. Yeager designs a fine jewelry line using 14k gold and gemstones, plus a more moderately priced collection made of sterling silver and gold plated brass. All the metal is recycled and the stones are conflict free. The styles, minimal and sophisticated with unique details.

The name I Like It Here Club comes from an inspiring story about Yeagers grandfather, loving know as Super Fred. He created the club while at a POW camp in Japan during WWII, its purpose was to give the prisoners hope. You can read more about his story here, his influence on Yeager and her line is quite beautiful. She hopes the name with continue to encourage and that it will "inspire the wearer to stay positive, keep an open mind, and take another glance from a different point of view".
