HfS Collective

October 23, 2017

Hipsters For Sisters is a sustainable line of bags designed by mother and daughter duo Debra and Rachel Denniston. Their signature styles are hands free, worn at the hip, like a chic update to the Fanny Pack. The concept was created by Debra (mother) after years of frustration and shoulder pain associated with heavy bags. She also wanted to simplify "If men can get through their days with only the contents of their pockets, women can too." Their belt bags are just the right size for the essentials, for days when life requires you to carry a little more, they also design some beautiful larger cross body styles. All bags are made using sustainable, Eco and animal friendly materials, such as fabrics made from recycled materials, hemp, cork and Pinatex.

Galamaar

September 21, 2017

This sustainable swimwear line constructs their pieces using a nylon fabric made from recycled fishing nets. Fishing nets account for an estimated 10% of the oceans pollution, cleaning them up and repurposing them is vital. We love the idea of taking harmful waste from the ocean and turning it into a beautiful suit to be enjoyed at the beach. The styles are cut to flatter the form, classic pieces with a twist. They blend modern and vintage detailing with a chic color palette.

Sage & Stone

August 28, 2017

Delicious small batch, hand blended teas made from an assortment of organic herbs and mushrooms. A couple of our favorites; Heart Herbal Tea, made from hibiscus, ginger, rose hips, stevia leaf, orange peel, rose petals and hawthorn leaf (try this one iced, its perfect) and Awaken Black Tea, an uplifting mix of cornflowers, chaga + cordyceps mushrooms, vanilla bean and black tea. Not only is their packaging beautiful to look at but it is also Eco friendly, they use recyclable containers, compostable tea bags and a biodegradable wrap to seal in freshness, additionally 1% of proceeds are donated to environmental conservation efforts.

where Mountains Meet

August 11, 2017

The name comes from a quote by 19th century author William Blake “Great things are done where men and mountains meet. This is not done by jostling in the street.” It is also a nod to the designers love of nature, the Pacific Northwest and the Rocky Mountains. Their fabrication is exquisite, flawless french seams give the pieces a clean elegant finish. wMM partners with global artisans on a selection of their fabrics and everything is constructed in NYC, along with responsible sourcing they also use Eco friendly fabrics like organic cotton and 100% silk. The style is a refined take on conscious designs. Bold, artistic and high fashion while still retaining a sense of ease and effortlessness, making the pieces wonderfully wearable.

*This brand is currently exploring new frontiers and no longer selling their collection through their website, when we know more we will update. In the meantime, if you come across their pieces in a boutique or second hand snatch them up!

Sugar Candy Mountain

July 17, 2017

I typically use my own words to describe brands, but this description from Sugar Candy Mountain was so lovely I had to include it "Sugar Candy Mountain was created out of a desire for a confluence of comfort, beauty, and community. It is a reference Orwell made to Heaven, but in our sense, a Heaven of nature and community that can be lived-in and brought from Big Sur to Manhattan. It is generated from the ideals of radical creativity, revolutionary beauty, and a future that is self-sustaining."
The company makes their pieces with natural fabrics, an beautiful attention to detail and a deep care for community and our planet.

It Is Well L.A.

June 29, 2017

Beautiful garments with a wonderful cause, 10% of their proceeds are donated to a charitable organization who provides clean water wells to communities in need. Hence the name, well made clothing with a mission to help provide drinking water (wells). The designs are minimal and wearable with a unique attention to detail that makes them perfect wardrobe staples. Constructed with high quality fabrics, they feel great against the skin (we especially love their cotton gauze).

Rowsie Vain

June 27, 2017

Natural skincare crafted in Ojai California by Whitney Morales. We are particularly fond of her oil blends (Rise/Shine stole our hearts) these beautiful little oils are housed in glass bottles with dried flowers. Gorgeous to look at and they feel/smell wonderful on the skin. Our next favorites would be the Mama and Baby Moon oils, as well as the delicious Cafe Reve exfoliate. As a note a few of their products contain preservatives however they are high quality, responsibly sourced and used in minimal amounts, their purpose is to prevent mold and preserve the integrity of the products. If you prefer to avoid these, Rowsie Vain still has a lovely selection of products without them.

Bright Star & Buffalo

May 16, 2017

A mother and daughter duo forging metal in the desert. Bright Star & Buffalo was born from a desire to practice creativity daily and to hand forge pieces with intent. Kelsey (the mother) has 40+ years of experience working with metals. While Natalie (the daughter) studied liberal and fine arts, then went on to work in varying design fields (jewelry, interior, theater set). They use recycled or repurposed metals, resuse their scraps and work with cruelty free and gathered materials, implementing sustainable practices all along the way. We adore their wall hangings and brass hooks (pictured above).

Sankat

May 10, 2017

One of my favorite discoveries this year, 100% natural vegetable tanned leather goods, not only does this mean that the leather is free of toxic chemicals but it forms a natural patina over time +  softens beautifully. Sankat makes bags, wallets, belts, homewares, the most perfect camera strap and more using leather. Plus a collection of wood work accented with leather, like their Nuez Serving board (equipt with a leather strap handle).
